This Day in History: Sandra Dee Dies

It was 11 years ago today, on Feb. 20, 2005, that actress Sandra Dee died as a result of complications with kidney disease. She was 62.

Dee, born Alexandra Zuck, starred in approximately 22 films and also appeared in episodic television in the early 1970’s and early 1980’s. My favorite film of hers was Imitation of Life, which also starred Lana Turner, Juanita Moore, John Gavin and Susan Kohner.

30 Years Ago Today: Rick ‘Ricky’ Nelson Dies

On this day in music history: On Dec. 31, 1985, the breaking news all over the radio and all over television screens was that actor, singer, musician and former teen idol Rick ‘Ricky’ Nelson had been killed in a plane crash in DeKalb, Texas, alongside his fiancee Helen Blair and members from Nelson’s band.

Having watched reruns of “The Ozzie & Harriet Show,” I couldn’t help but have a crush on the young man on my TV screen, although in reality, he was already old enough to be my father! I’m sad I never got the opportunity to see him perform live in concert or that I never got to meet him. Nelson seemed like he was a genuine and shy man, who loved his craft.

Rick Nelson’s music will continue to live on forever so that many more generations can enjoy his Rockabilly-Pop-Rock sound. 🎭 πŸ“Ί πŸŽ₯ 🎡

From starring in films like Old Yeller, Smith Family Robinson, Pollyanna and The Shaggy Dog, he appeared in many films from the early 1950’s to mid-1960’s. His last known film role was in 2009 in It Starts With Murder! Corcoran was also a co-producer on nine episodes of The Shield and on 14 installments of Sons of Anarchy.

Corcoran came from a showbiz family. One of eight children, his older sister Noreen played John Forsythe’s niece in the 1950’s television show Bachelor Father. His other siblings also appeared in various film and television roles around the same time.
