Desiderio Alberto Arnaz y de Acha III, better known as Desi Arnaz, Sr., was born on Mar. 2, 1917. Of course, people all over the world know him best as Lucille Ball’s former husband and from their television comedy series I Love Lucy.
Arnaz was diagnosed with lung cancer in 1986 and died on Dec. 2, 1986, at the age of 69.

Born on Aug. 6, 1911, Lucille Désirée Ball was born in Jamestown, New York, and made her mark in films in the 1930’s and 1940’s. A decade later, she became a television star. In 1951, she and her then-husband, Desi Arnaz, created the comedy series I Love Lucy, which became one of the most popular and much loved programs in TV history.
Ball was nominated numerous times for an Emmy Award and won four times. In May 1960, she and Arnaz divorced. In 1962, she became the first woman to run a major television studio, aptly called Desilu.
Sadly, Ball died on Apr. 26, 1989 at age 77 of an abdominal aortic dissection.
