It’s Throwback Thursday and I thought I’d play some music by one of my favorite bands. 🙂

Sept. 12, 2016 will mark the 50th anniversary of when The Monkees television show premiered on NBC.
I can’t help but wonder if the song “Shades of Gray”–which was written in 1965 by songwriters (and real-life spouses) Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil and was recorded in 1967 by the band The Monkees for their second album Headquarters–played an inspiration to the new film Fifty Shades of Grey. I really think this song should have been added to the film’s soundtrack. 😉
Fifty Shades of Grey is now playing in theaters nationwide.

Iconic 1960’s singer-songwriter Lesley Gore died today of cancer. She was 68.
Gore’s classic songs include “You Don’t Own Me,” “Judy’s Turn to Cry,” (my personal favorite) “Maybe I Know” and, of course, “It’s My Party.”

March 31 will mark 20 years since Grammy Award-winning singer Selena Quintanilla’s tragic death. The City of Corpus Christi, TX plans to honor its most famous resident during a two-day festival April 17-18. Selena was born Apr. 16, 1971.
The ‘Fiesta de la Flor’ is named after one of Quintanilla’s hit songs, “Como La Flor.” The festival is expected to bring in about $1 million into the local economy.
In honor of the Christmas holiday, here is Darlene Love singing “Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home).”
Love has been performing this classic song on Letterman since 1986. You can see her perform this song for the last time on Late Show with David Letterman on Dec. 19 on CBS.
The band Tears for Fears performed on Jimmy Kimmel last night to commemorate the 30th anniversary of their sophomore album Songs from the Big Chair. They played two of their hit songs from that album, including one of my favorites. 🙂 🎤 🎵 🎸 🎵

On October 11, 2004, Duran Duran’s reunion album and CD, ‘Astronaut’ was released.
I was fortunate to have attended one of their shows to promote this album. In fact, it was my first Duran Duran show ever and I’ve been a fan of their music since I was a child! I must have had the biggest smile on my face when I heard “(Reach Up For The) Sunrise” for the first time on the radio and then I saw the video on MTV, which was still airing music videos back then 😉
Here’s one of my favorite songs from ‘Astronaut’…

Congratulations to Jonathan Knight, Danny Wood, Donnie Wahlberg, Jordan Knight and Joey McIntyre, the 5 ‘New Kids’ from Boston, who received their star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame today! 🙂 ✭
